Leading NYC-based low-ender releases high-intensity debut album

In-demand US bassist Harish Raghavan, known for his stellar sideman credits with the likes of Kurt Elling and Ambrose Akinmusire, is set to release his debut solo album, Calls For Action, on 8 November on Whirlwind Recordings. A consistently creative presence in many leading jazz ensembles, Raghavan has also toured and recorded with the likes of Vijay Iyer, Eric Harland, Logan Richardson, Charles Lloyd and saxophonist Walter Smith III, who also produced the record.

The album features dense, high-energy original material that's performed by the bassist/leader’s band of fast-rising vibist Joel Ross and some of New York’s most exciting new names such as drummer Kweku Sumbry, pianist Micah Thomas and alto saxophonist Immaunel Wilkins.

Commenting on the album Raghavan said: “Calls For Action is a culmination of a year’s development with this band, which enabled us to explore the music to develop a strong cohesiveness – the process also greatly aided in my development as a composer. The pieces range from reflections of key moments, to people who’ve had a profound impact on my life, while others are calls to ignite action.”
