A new collaborative project between Portishead guitarist and Polar Bear drummer hits the road this month

Guitarist Adrian Utley, one of the founding members of Bristol-based big-selling trip-hop /jazz band Portishead, has put together a new project, Transcendence with in-demand drummer Seb Rochford, saxophonist Paul Booth, keyboardist Mark Edwards and bassist Arnie Somogyi with their debut at Bristol's Strange Brew venue on 17 April, followed by Brighton’s Unitarian Church on Easter Sunday, 20 April.
These dates precede a headline appearance at London's Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club on 29 April where the band will include legendary American trumpeter Eddie Henderson, who has previously worked with Utley.
The band describe their project as, "Drawing on both composed pieces and extended spontaneous improvisation, exploring themes of movement, chaos, transcendence and resolution, delivered through a fusion of expansive melodies, and immersive soundscapes. Expect moments of introspective beauty as well as unrestrained sonic exploration."
