The star-studded awards will be presented by Cerys Matthews with thrilling live performances from a range of world, jazz and folk artists
The Songlines Music Awards: The Live Show returns on 2 November to top London venue, Scala, in King's Cross. Hosting the event will be DJ and broadcaster Cerys Matthews, who will preside over an eye-catching series of live performances.
Chief among these will be burgeoning UK new generation jazz/world band, Balimaya Project, who are led percussionist-composer Yahael Camara Onono. Forging a link between his West African Mandé traditions with brassy London-jazz Afro-beat interests, the band have been described by Jazzwise as an “exhilarating large ensemble… featuring a kaleidoscopic array of instrumentalists/vocalists”.
The group’s all-star 16-piece line-up includes members of bands such as Kokoroko and Seed, as the group bridge the space between London’s bustling jazz circuit with traditional repertoire and folklore of the Mandé peoples of West Africa, and in turn connect the music’s contemporary and ancestral forbearers.
Further appearances on the night include iconic Balkan brass troupe Fanfare Ciocărlia; blazing fusion duo Justin Adams & Mauro Durante; Malian kora maestro Ballaké Sissoko and some very special guests still to be announced.
