The Norwegian nu-jazz invasion of the mid-1990s owed much to the plucky maneuverings of the questing Jazzland imprint, that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Early releases from Bugge Wesseltoft and Beady Belle were to place Europe on the jazz map once more and the label's influence pervades through a crop of current sonic alchemists. Ahead of the label's Kings Place residency at the London Jazz Festival, Stuart Nicholson spoke to Wesseltoft about the evolution of Jazzland, the roster he helped create along with Sten Nilsen, and the ongoing relevance of its tradition-meetselectronic innovation to the contemporary scene
