Top UK and international names convene for this month’s south coast jazz festival
This year's Brighton Jazz Festival takes place from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 September at Horatio's Bar on Brighton's iconic Palace Pier and features a vibrant main stage line-up encompassing double bills of top UK names, rising stars and international newcomers. Now in its fourth year, the festival takes place in a unique pier-end setting with spectacular views of the Sussex coast line. Organisers have themed this year’s bill under a banner of ‘generations’, “encompassing all generations of jazz musicians to show how jazz is a vital living tradition with deep roots”.
The main headline programme is as follows: Thursday 26 Sept (7.30pm); Rachel Cohen Quartet plus Sean Payne Quartet Friday 27 Sept (7.30pm); New Generation Jazz presents Tjoe & NTBM plus Knats Saturday 28 Sept (7.30pm); Patrick Bartley & Deschanel Gordon Trio plus QOW Trio Sunday 29 Sept (7.30pm) Claire Martin Quartet plus Tim Garland/Jason Rebello Duo.
The weekend daytime programme includes shows from Joseph Stout’s Terrarium (12noon); New Generation Jazz presents The Marcus Bunton Trio (1pm), Anona Trio (2pm) and the Every Generation Jazz Ensemble (3pm, all 28 Sept), and New Generation Jazz presents Jazz Futures (12pm); We-Bop Choir (2pm); and Amuse Manouche (3pm, all on 29 Sept).
