Julian Argüelles Trio With John Abercrombie To Tour Scotland

Scottish-based saxophonist and composer Julian Argüelles has confirmed a series of dates for a collaborative tour with internationally renowned jazz guitarist, John Abercrombie.
Seven new compositions written by Argüelles will be performed on the tour. Julian Argüelles shot to prominence on the British jazz scene in the mid-1980s as a founding member of the Loose Tubes ensemble. Since then he has led trio, quartet and octet line-ups and worked in the big bands of Django Bates, Kenny Wheeler and Chris McGregor, among others. His current trio consists of drummer, Tom Rainey and bassist, Michael Formanek. John Abercrombie’s musical journey has taken him through projects with a veritable who’s who of international jazz stars. From Gil Evans to the Brecker Brothers, McCoy Tyner to Jan Garbarek, each has proved Abercrombie to be a much sought-after musician.
Due for release shortly after the Scotland tour, in late-May, is Argüelles’ second album of the year, Momenta. The new recording sees him return to a big band setting with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band. Recorded live in concert, it also features Gwilym Simcock as a guest artist.
The tour dates include: Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow (Sunday 3 May), Redrooms, Perth Theatre (Monday 4 May), Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh (Tuesday 5 May), Eden Court, Inverness (Wednesday 6 May), Blue Lamp, Aberdeen (Thursday 7 May) and Byre Theatre, St. Andrews (Friday 8 May).
