Twenty time-Grammy-winning guitarist Pat Metheny makes an emphatic return to live performance as he embarks on a 100 date world tour this autumn, with a sole UK date confirmed for 12 June 2022 at London’s Eventim Hammersmith Apollo.

As announced in the July issue of Jazzwise, Metheny has selected two rising star virtuosos in the form of Blue Note signed keyboardist James Francies and versatile New Orleans drum talent Joe Dyson to join him on the road, while the accompanying live album Side-Eye NYC (V1.IV), which is released on 10 September on his new label BMG Modern Recordings, features acclaimed sticksman Marcus Gilmore.

Recorded just before the pandemic, SIDE-EYE NYC balances new originals with inventive reworkings of some of Metheny’s most cherished compositions such as ‘Timeline’, which he previously recorded with Michael Brecker and Elvin Jones.

The new trio seamlessly moves between the compact and the expansive with gritty acoustic jazz contrasting with contemporaneous electronic textures, the set list is ‘It Starts When It Disappears’, ‘Better Days Ahead’, ‘Timeline’, ‘Bright Size Life’, ‘Lodger’, ‘Sirabhorn’, ‘Turnaround’ and ‘Zenith Blues’. Listen to the first track ‘It Starts When It Disappears’ in full on the video below.
