The high-flying quartet return with a new studio set on 9 September and share live single video for ‘Disco Ears’
The stellar quartet of saxophonist Joshua Redman, pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade return with their new album LongGone, on 9 September on the Nonesuch imprint – ahead of their EFG London Jazz Festival headline show on 14 November at the Barbican.
All are original members of the 1990s Joshua Redman Quartet –who reunited after twenty-six years for 2020’s RoundAgain; and now on LongGone, they present six original songs by Redman, the first of which, ‘Disco Ears’, is out today along with a live performance video.
RoundAgain was the group’s first recording since 1994’s MoodSwing and debuted at No. 1 on the Current Traditional Jazz Albums chart in the US and at No. 1 on the Jazz & Blues chart in the UK. The album received two Grammy nominations, while NPR called it “a flawless effort”, stating that the four musicians have ‘only gotten better in that time’ and are each “at the very top of his game now”.
Commenting on the having such a heavyweight band for his 1990 album, Redman said: “I realised almost immediately that this band wouldn’t stay together for very long. They were without a doubt, for our generation, among the most accomplished and innovative on their respective instruments. I knew better than anyone else just how incredibly lucky I was to have even that short time with them.”
