There’s an all-star showcase of Tomorrow’s Warriors alumni with new works premiered this October
Tomorrow’s Warriors return to the Jazz Café for their big annual party, this time shining a light on the women who are shaping the current sound of London jazz with a special line-up entitled I AM WARRIOR on Saturday 26 October. Performances come from Tomorrow’s Warriors alumni, including vocalist Cherise, alto saxophonist Camilla George, trombonist Rosie Turton and saxophonist Maddy Coombs, all joined by some of the young female musicians who are currently part of the Warriors’ artist development programme. The concert will feature specially commissioned pieces from each of the special guests plus new commissions from emerging artists Kezia Abuoma and Emily Tran, who will also be performing on the night. Completing the line-up, is the musical director for the evening, is drummer, composer, and Warriors alumna, Romarna Campbell.
Just ahead of the concert, Tomorrow’s Warriors launch their next Big Give campaign and this also has a focus on supporting new female musical talent in the form of Beyond the Sound Barrier (BTSB). This new outreach initiative will partner with inner London schools to inspire the next generation of female jazz talent, provide access to successful role models, open pathways to progression and ultimately aim to build sustainable careers in music.
Commenting on these two timely events, Tomorrow's Warriors co-founder and CEO Janine Irons said: “Regardless of genre, women face countless barriers to a career in the music industry and many talented musicians are lost before their career has even begun. We need to work now to drive change and inspire the young women that will shape the future of female representation in the industry.”
