Lancaster Jazz Festival have announced their full programme for this year’s festival, which takes place over five days from 6-10 September, the festival is an annual highlight for Lancaster and the national jazz scene. Featuring John Pope, Romarna Campbell, Laura Cole and Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band, it’s a whirlwind programme of the best contemporary jazz from across the UK as well as great local and community talent.

The 2023 programme will be hosted at six city centre venues and includes a packed weekend of incredible music. Presenting the best in the UK’s contemporary jazz scene and matching emerging, established and community artists side by side.

Highlights include an opening night with Laura Cole’s Pursuance project followed by three days of free access gigs at Lancaster hotspot Kanteena as well as festival hub The Storey hosting a series of intimate ticketed gigs from the scene’s finest artists. Then Lancaster Priory will showcase a delightful double bill featuring Richard Jones Trio and Engawa, and finally Artist in Residence, bassist John Pope, will round off the weekend with exquisite new music from his quartet.

There’s also a new ‘Innovation Hub’ sponsored by Groundswell Innovations. Where all sorts of collaborations, pop-ups, talks and surprises will captivate audiences throughout the weekend.

The Festival prides themselves on its mission to support artists, and this year has included an expanded ‘Inspire Artist’ conference day, supported by UKSPF. Which will see a dedicated space for artists to network, have conversations about their practice and connect with key industry insiders.

“This year’s programme builds on the growth of the festival in recent years. With a programme featuring audio-visuals, electronic crossovers and hip-hop inspired sounds, it’s a truly distinct reflection of sound of the UK Jazz Scene. We can’t wait to welcome artists and audiences alike to Lancaster.” - Festival Director, Lucy Woolley.

Alongside this packed programme watch out for pop up activities, workshops, talks, walks and much more across the week.
