Promising a mix of ‘new discoveries and experiences’, the Jazz in the Park Festival, takes place in Cluj-Napoca, the heart of Transylvania for its 12th edition later this summer from the 30th August to 1st September.

The line-up brings together many different strands of jazz from heavy hitters such as bass great Avishai Cohen, progressive piano star Tigran Hamasyan or revered drummer Manu Katché, to funk legends Cymande and entertaining crowd pleasing shows such as Postmodern Jukebox. Rising stars are also featured and include bass guitar prodigy and internet sensation Kynga Glyk, four-piece London based collective Oreglo or local heroes Krisper and Amphitrio.

Jazz in the Park fosters an inclusive atmosphere where everyone's welcome to experience the music – jazz newcomers and aficionados are all welcome – while the organisers are seeking to promote access to valuable public spaces. Taking place in the local Village Museum; the venue and the festival match together perfectly. During the festival, the village becomes part of a live music community, although crowd numbers are limited to around 7,000 people a day.

Cluj-Napoca is great for a city break as well. With a vibrant city centre, it has great bars (check out Visuin), and is home of other great music and film festivals.

Full line-up will be announced late May so follow them somewhere online at www.jazzinthepark.ro
