Video of the Day: Alex Roth, Wacław Zimpel and Hubert Zemler share debut track from new project Cut The Sky

Thursday, November 9, 2023

A new trio featuring acclaimed clarinettist Wacław Zimpel, percussionist Hubert Zemler, and bandleader/guitarist Alex Roth blends jazz, post-rock and powerful soundscapes

Esz Kodesz is an album of experimental, improvised post-rock by Cut The Sky - featuring the highly celebrated musicians: clarinettist Wacław Zimpel, percussionist Hubert Zemler, and bandleader/guitarist Alex Roth, out on Aion Records on Friday 1st Dec 2023 via digital streaming and retail formats.

Across the album’s six explorative tracks there are reminders of Australian trio, The Necks and their lengthy excursions. There are the shades of mist and ocean, of abandoned and neglected sites, that recalls Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Talk Talk circa Laughing Stock. Roth’s reverberant, luminous, yearning guitar stylings, meanwhile invite comparisons with everyone from Robert Fripp to Bill Frisell to Ben Monder, especially in conjunction with Zemler’s free-wheeling, cyclical percussion. For all the solipsism and introspection implied in a personal undertaking like Esz Kodesz, the band say: "we are all interconnected, united in our common humanity".

Ahead of the album release, Cut The Sky’s first single, the album’s title track ‘Esz Kodesz’ is out now on all streaming platforms – and see the video below - and for more info visit alexrothmusic.bandcamp.com/album/esz-kodesz
