Lophae (pronounced “Lo-Fi”) a new psychedelic jazz quartet formed by guitarist and composer Greg Sanders, today release 'Dedication To David T', the second track from their forthcoming debut album Perfect Strangers, which is due for release in early 2205. Bringing together some of his favourite musicians to interpret his unique and compelling compositions, ‘Dedication To David T’ is an elegy for a friend who died too young, a mysterious and enigmatic soul who made a profound impression on everyone who knew him.

The lyrical melody unfolds over lush harmony and a persistent but relaxed groove in 3 / 4 time, eventually dissipating into snatches of harmonic condensation. Drummer Ben Brown contributes a meditative yet swinging slow groove, providing a rich foundation.

Bass player Tom Herbert offers no more and no less than exactly what the music needs, path-finding gorgeous routes through the harmonic progression with strings partner Greg Sanders on guitar filling out the harmonic landscape with the help of some choice pedals. Sam Rapley on tenor sax handles solo duties, weaving a tasteful and beautiful dedication to friends no longer with us.

Each musician brings a unique character and sound, combining to create something simultaneously familiar yet completely fresh. Happily influenced by the London alternative jazz, world and scenes in which all 4 members are deeply involved – the echoes of their projects like Waaju, Teotima, Juanita Euka, Polar Bear, and of friends & collaborators like Unknown To Known, Babo Moreno, Qwalia are all audible.

Says Sanders of the song and the music in general: “I've always loved tunes that are really slow but still have a really strong pulse and deep groove. I wanted to combine that idea with a melody that was lyrical and singeable over chords that would feel simultaneously unexpected and natural. I also wanted to capture that sense of gratitude for the time and experiences you’ve shared with someone, mixed with the sadness and acceptance that they’re no longer around. This is a tune I can imagine that person I have in my mind playing really beautifully”
