The South London vocalist returns with a new EP of ballads and jazz-funk originals and several live dates
Rising South London-based vocalist and composer Rowan Flack is set to release her new EP, Forest Fires, in February with the last single, ‘Strawberries in the Spring’ released on 19 January. Known for her introspective and accessible contemporary jazz songs with contemplative lyrics and understated, clear vocal delivery, Flack’s new songs move effortlessly from the languid neo-soul of the first single, to the groove-heavy harmonies of the EP’s title track. The new single also features guitarist Joseph Leighton (David Lyttle, Meilana Gillard) with whom Flack trained with at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, alongside Flack on vocals and keys.
The Brit alumna and jazz graduate’s intricate and intimate sound takes influences from modern song writers who less concerned with genres but also happy to embrace an eclectic range of sounds. Commenting on the new songs Rowan says: “With this project, I've been exploring a genre gap, somewhere between Nordic/European ECM-style jazz, indie-folk and soulful pop. I'm excited about pushing this blend of genres into the London jazz scene.
Rowan Flack supports this release with three live shows at the following venues: Live At The Bedford, London (23 Jan), Crazy Coqs, Soho (5 March) and Pizza Express Jazz Club at The Pheasantry, Chelsea (23 April, supporting Lusaint)
