Alison Rayner – Making Magic Happen

Bassist and composer Alison Rayner has been a pillar of musical strength since boldly emerging as a Fender bass-toting force in 1970s feminist jazz-funk band Jam Today and 1980s all-women group The Guest Stars.

Now also playing double-bass she's become renowned for her richly resonant, soulful playing, both as a founding member of jazz collective, Blow The Fuse, and her own Quintet whose new album, A Magic Life, has recently been released. Val Wilmer spoke to Rayner and her bandmates, to discover the emotional heart behind the bassist's bewitching music
