More super-sized indie rock group than big band, 14-piece Beats & Pieces have charged to the front of the UK’s forward-looking jazz scene since first coming together five years ago.

Originally inspired by sadly defunct UK punk-jazz pioneers Acoustic Ladyland, and now taking their cues from David Bowie, Radiohead, Björk and New York’s Darcy James Argue, Beats & Pieces step things up a gear with their barnstorming new album, All In. Selwyn Harris spoke to their composer/bandleader Ben Cottrell about how the band’s huge collective commitment means this big band behemoth has a bright future ahead
