Leaving behind a trail of lurid headlines and prison time in the US, Chet Baker increasingly sought solace in the clubs of Europe, as recently commemorated by the release of a new double-album, Chet Baker Live In London.

Recorded between 28 March to 2 April 1983 on a week-long engagement at the long defunct Canteen in Covent Garden, it reveals Baker's golden tone and stunning solos transcending his dishevelled appearance. Roy Carr draws on past interviews with Baker and the musicians who performed with him on those London dates to explore a pivotal phase in the troubled trumpet-player's life
