This month marks the 50th anniversary of the release of tenor-saxophonist Eddie Harris' boundarybreaking Silver Cycles album.
This somewhat overlooked, but space-age cocktail of spiritual jazz, avant-garde and ethereal voices, along with Harris' innovative use of analogue electronic effects, now chimes widely with today's new jazz generation. Acclaimed poet, lyricist and musician Pete Brown, who met Harris on a number of occasions, takes a personal look back at his life and work, revealing the saxophonist's deadpan sense of humour alongside a catalogue ripe for reinvestigation
