Elt Meets Kingo: A Day In The Faroe Islands

This short film records the meeting of Elt in January 2020 with local trombonist/producer Dávur Juul Magnussen for a special sunset concert with the choir of Kingobólkurin úr Tjørnuvik in the picturesque Nordskala Church. Singing in kingo, an ancient form of hymn singing (similar to Gaelic psalm singing in the Western Isles of Scotland), the choir perform unaccompanied in unison, each individual's own pace, tuning and embellishment encouraged and included within the sound. The results are striking and beautiful – expressive and powerful – a cultural exchange unlike any other – both sides contributing without compromise, fuelled by a spirit both unifying and respectful.
