Ivo Perelman – Bigger Orbits

São Paulo-born New York based saxophonist Ivo Perelman has, in his own words, been in something of an “intense creative frenzy” since his 1989 debut, Ivo, releasing over 40 albums as a leader.

It’s a work rate that matches the volcanic intensity of his playing, and hooked to his impassioned ‘spontaneous composing’ style, singles him out as one of today’s most ferociously creative saxophonists. Kevin Le Gendre caught up with the saxophonist while he was in London – performing in an interstellar duo with fellow free-form firebrand Matthew Shipp – to discuss his lifelong journey towards escape velocity.
