Moving from Young Lion to elder, wiser jazz statesman, Joshua Redman has put a lot of miles on the clock in his 20-year career.

Thus it’s a sign of his maturity that he now releases his first ballads album, Walking Shadows. The saxophonist opens up to Kevin Le Gendre about his new high-calibre quartet, which includes Brad Mehldau, and the string-laden material that includes interpretations of The Beatles, Coltrane and Redman’s own lush originals
