London Jazz Festival - Full Line Up

With the London Jazz Festival 2008 kicking off on Friday 14th November the organisers, Serious, have announced a special Esbjörn Svensson tribute event together with the full jazz club programme and a series of special free concerts and events to run alongside the major concert programme announced in Jazzwise last month.



Also performing are the BBC Big Band with Roy Hargrove and Benny Golson (Queen Elizabeth Hall, 19 Nov); a double bill of Biréli Lagrène and Martin Taylor (Purcell Room, 23 Nov); the Alan Barnes Octet (Purcell Room, 17 Nov); Arild Andersen Trio with Tommy Smith and Paolo Vinaccia (Purcell Room, 22 Nov), Tom Cawley’s Curios, Jim Hart’s Gemini and Mike Janisch’s Transatlantic Collective (Purcell Room, 18 Nov); Portico Quartet (Purcell Room, 19 Nov); Gilad Atzmon with Strings (Purcell Room, 21 Nov). In addition running throughout the festival will be Scene Norway, a special nine day mini-festival devoted to new Norwegian jazz and the Punkt festival that will be held at the prestigious new King’s Place venue.

With a truly spectacular line up that includes Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea/John McLaughlin & the Five Peace band, Courtney Pine, Rudresh Mahanthappa with Vijay Iyer, Bill Frisell, Chucho Valdes, Peter Brötzmann, Kurt Elling, Andy Sheppard, Manu Katché, Dhafer Yousef/Joanna MacGregor and Milton Nascimento, the festival is shaping up to the most eagerly anticipated in years.
