Manu Katché’s music is much like the beaming smile that flashes across his face during a gig: full of bright melodies and a natural warmth.

One of the most individual jazz and rock drummers on the planet, he’s worked with the cream of the crop and played more stadiums than most have had hot dinners. Stuart Nicholson met up with him in Paris and discovers that Katché’s ability to create compelling yet understated melodically-charged music with his finely-tuned quartet, with whom he releases his debut album on ACT this month, makes him one of the unique instrumental storytellers in jazz
