One of the most consistently creative musicians of his generation, alto saxophonist Martin Speake has proved his longevity during a prolific three-decade career.

First rising to prominence in the 1980s 'jazz boom' with the band Itchy Fingers, it's been the recent reigniting of his creative partnership with former Bad Plus pianist Ethan Iverson that's seem him record one of his strongest albums to date, Intention. Stuart Nicholson spoke to the altoist about the roots of this relationship and how a long career in jazz requires more than just a musical evolution
