Mike Stern – Beyond Breaking Point

Seriously hurt while hailing a taxi in New York last year, former Miles Davis guitarist Mike Stern broke both his shoulders in what could have been a career-ending injury.

Now on the road to recovery, the indefatigable guitar icon has overcome the ongoing effects of nerve damage on his right hand and recorded an emphatically high-energy new album, the satirically-titled Trip, featuring Randy Brecker, Wallace Roney and Bill Evans among others. The axe hero spoke to Stuart Nicholson about his return to performing, which has already included guesting at Chick Corea's 75th birthday celebrations last year, and two upcoming dates at this year's London Jazz Festival
