NYJO at 50 – Blame It On Our Youth

The National Youth Jazz Orchestra is one of Britain’s longest running ensembles and has served as a real-world finishing school for countless young professionals including illustrious alumni such as Guy Barker, Mark Nightingale, Gerard Presencer, Pete Long, Dennis and Winston Rollins and Amy Winehouse.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, NYJO enters its second half-century in fine fettle, and in spite of being buffeted by waves of bureaucracy and fickle musical fashions in the past, has emerged with a clear vision for the future. Andy Robson spoke to its artistic and musical director Mark Armstrong, and executive chairman Nigel Tully, about keeping this vital institution alive and kicking today
