Partisans can rightfully be cited as the godfathers of the new wave of Brit-jazz, who, since their formation in 1996 have always embraced Coltrane, electric Miles and Hendrix in equal measure, and countless points in between.

It’s an approach that’s helped lay the foundation for the sort of genre cross-pollination that many now take for granted in forward-looking jazz. Back with their fresh-faced fifth album, Swamp, the group’s core duo of saxophonist Julian Siegel and guitarist Phil Robson talk to Andy Robson about how their friendship and the group’s innate chemistry helped them produce their latest Afro-grooving, hard-funking, wah-wah-rocking opus
