featSaxophonist Trish Clowes' latest album My Iris, on the Basho imprint, turns the sound of the traditional Hammond and guitar trio on its head – stretching the sonic possibilities into malleable new forms.

Featuring guitarist Chris Montague, organist/pianist Ross Stanley and drummer James Maddren, Clowes is on a mission to steer her music into genre-melting zones. Stuart Nicholson looks into the album's far from flowery influences to discover they pose a series of reflections on history's bitter warnings within a course of distinctive, but decidedly melodic, improvisation
