Ivor Novello-nominated saxophonist and composer Alex Hitchcock will lead three ‘one-night-only’ ensembles on 9-11 August at the Vortex in Dalston, in a live album recording for the second instalment of his Dream Band series. With critically acclaimed releases as a leader on Fresh Sound New Talent and Edition Records, as well as innovative collaborations with a wide range of luminary peers, Hitchcock has earned a growing international reputation as a catalyst for captivating musical encounters that “continually push the envelope a little further” (Jazzmania BE).
Tickets are available on a ‘pay what you can afford’ basis – proceeds will support the production of an album that takes shape over three nights in front of a live audience. The line-ups gather together many leading lights of the UK and European jazz scenes in what should result in some fascinating first-time collaborations and wildly varying musical results with the following dates and personnel – there are two shows per night with each band:
Band on 9 August: Liselotte Östblom / Mark Kavuma / Rob Luft / Rio Kai /Jamie Murray
Band on 10 August: James Copus / Lewis Wright / Kit Downes / Conor Chaplin / Marc Michel
Band on 11 August: Alexandra Ridout / Ant Law / Robert Mitchell / Orlando Le Fleming / James Maddren
