Keyboard wizard and Snarky Puppy co-founder Bill Laurance has a new trio album out later this month (14 February), recorded live at Ronnie Scott’s in 2018
Released on Laurance’s own Flint Music label, Live at Ronnie Scott’s was taped at the world-renowned jazz club’s International Piano Trio festival, on 3 August, 2018.
The pianist is accompanied by Jonathan Harvey on upright and electric bass, and Marijus Aleksa on drums. All nine tracks on the album are Laurance originals and have been arranged for a predominantly acoustic set-up, with, as the composer says, “the prestige of the venue and great trio albums by the likes of Ahmad Jamal and Oscar Peterson in mind”.
Laurance has chosen to dedicate this album to the late Mel Robinson, his first piano teacher, who he thanks for “instilling the joy in music right from the beginning”. Laurance and his trio will be touring Europe from 4 March, including two dates at Ronnie Scott’s (12 and 13 March).
