Carla Bley marks 80th with new album and Ronnie’s date

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

Revered composer and pianist Carla Bley celebrates her 80th birthday today (11 May) by releasing her ECM album, entitled Andando el Tiempo (which aptly translates as ‘the passing of time’).

Once again working with her close-knit trio of husband and renowned bassist Steve Swallow and top British saxophonist Andy Sheppard, the music is typically sophisticated, yet playfully poised.

The trio, now together for over 20 years also visit the UK for a single night at Ronnie Scott’s on 17 July, performing music from the new record and their previous ECM album from 2012, Trios
