Key Miles albums to feature on deluxe 4-LP set that’s due for release this November
Craft Recordings is to commemorate the 70th anniversary of a pivotal year in Miles Davis' career– 1954 – with a new 4-LP, double CD and hi-res download set entitled Miles '54. The new compilation, available from 22 November, collects 20 tracks from a variety of important albums Miles put out that year, all on Prestige, and most of them recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in Hackensack, New Jersey.
These albums include: Miles Davis with Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis Quintet, Miles Davis All Star Sextet, and Miles Davis Quartet. Among the musicians accompanying the trumpeter on these five historic sessions are Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk, Milt Jackson, Kenny Clarke, Art Blakey, and Horace Silver.
All audio has been newly remastered by Grammy winning engineer, Paul Blakemore; the lacquers for the quadruple vinyl have been cut by acclaimed engineer Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. Physical editions will also offer a brand new essay by music historian and Davis scholar Ashley Kahn (author of Kind of Blue: The Making of the Miles Davis Masterpiece, among others) as well as in-depth session notes by award winning writer, Dan Morgenstern.
