Debut for Scottish singer Alison Burns

Thursday, March 8, 2007

Singer Alison Burns makes her debut this month with new release Kissing Bug. She's in good company: the album is produced by Martin Taylor (who also happens to be her father-in-law) with a strong band including Martin, trumpeter Guy Barker, pianist David Newton, bassist Ewen Vernal, accordionist Jack Emblow and drummer James Taylor (her husband). The title track, a lesser known Billy Strayhorn tune, is complemented by a range of familiar standards from the golden era of jazz with material by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Jerome Kern, among others.

Alison, who originally trained as a mechanical engineer and then a lawyer, is also known for her work in the vocal group the Penny Dainties. She made her debut playing with Martin Taylor's Freternity in February and upcoming dates include the Royal Oak, Maidenhead (16 April) and the Famous Bein Inn, Glenfarg (28-29 April).
