In a statement released today, Krall’s label Verve stated ‘Diana’s condition has become much more chronic than first anticipated, and she is unable to travel or engage in any promotional or touring activities for at least another 6 weeks to 2 months’. The news broke just after the October issue of Jazzwise (picture left) went on sale with a striking cover feature on Krallm with an exclusive interview with the Canadian vocalist in what is now some four months ahead of the album’s new release date.
Krall released a statement about her disappointment at the postponement of the tour and album release date: “I’m deeply saddened that I will have to postpone the release of my new album Wallflower and the Wallflower US Fall Tour until next year. I’ve been battling a severe case of pneumonia and am under doctor’s orders to rest for the next few months in order to regain my strength and good health,” say Krall. “Performing is both a privilege and a joy for me. When I go out on stage I want to be able to give it everything. Taking this time to rest and recuperate will allow me to do that. It is frustrating to be so close to the record release and have to delay but I am very proud of this record and want to be able to give you all my very best when we finally present this music to you. Thank you so much for your understanding.”
Wallflower includes her own reinterpretations of songs that have inspired her since the late 1960s in what is the first new studio recording from the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer since she released Glad Rag Doll in October 2012. The new album includes songs such as the Mamas and Papas’ ‘California Dreamin’’, the Eagles’ ‘Desperado’, Elton John’s ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’, Bob Dylan’s ‘Wallflower’ and a previously unreleased new composition by Paul McCartney, ‘If I Take You Home Tonight’, all interpreted in her unique style which has seen her become the biggest selling female jazz album artist of the past 30 years.
The album is produced by David Foster, the Canadian pianist, songwriter and producer who has a string of major production credits and 16 Grammy Awards. Krall previously worked with Foster, who is also chairman of Verve Music Group, on the soundtrack of The Score, a 2001 movie starring Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro where she performed ‘I’ll Make It Up, As I Go’, written by Foster. Jazzwise wishes Diana a speedy recovery.
