Jazzwise sat down with the President of Blue Note Records, Don Was, to look back at the label's history and to talk about the label's 80th birthday
With the release of Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes on DVD - label boss and hugely acclaimed producer Don Was, spoke exclusively to Jazzwise magazine about his early encounters with Blue Note artists and his current role as president of this iconic imprint.
The film Beyond The Notes explores the vision behind the renowned American jazz record label. Since its inception in 1939, Blue Note created an environment for creativity to flourish, encouraging artists to push creative boundaries in search of uncompromising expressions. The result was music with heart, originality and social conscience. Following a successful theatrical run, the film will now be released on DVD, Blu-ray & digital globally on September 6th 2019.
