The boundary breaking group stormed the Brit Awards with a stunning performance featuring Kinetika Bloco and vocalist Jorja Smith

Having made history as the first jazz group to win the Mercury Prize in 2023, Ezra Collective took home Group of the Year at this weekend’s Brit Awards, following the release of their critically acclaimed album Dance, No One’s Watching, to mark another breakthrough moment for UK jazz.
The night was capped off with a fiery performance that had the entire O2 Arena on its feet, a fitting celebration for a band redefining what jazz can be. As the first-ever jazz group to perform at the BRIT Awards in its 45-year history, Ezra Collective delivered an electrifying set, joined on stage by Jorja Smith, bringing their signature fusion of jazz, Afrobeat, and London’s vibrant musical cultures to a national stage. Introduced by football legend & presenter Ian Wright, the band were also accompanied by 30 young musicians from Kinetika Bloco, a youth group which members of Ezra Collective attended as children, which added an extra layer of energy and spectacle to the performance – see the performance below.
Ezra Collective’s landmark win come after a banner year, with Dance, No One’s Watching debuting at No. 7 on the UK Official Charts and receiving widespread critical acclaim. The album’s lead single, ‘God Gave Me Feet For Dancing’, became a breakout anthem, earning an A-list slot on BBC Radio 1 and a spotlight performance on Strictly Come Dancing. The band also secured major covers across The Observer New Review, ES Magazine, Mixmag, Music Week, and a British Vogue feature.
The group’s momentum has been unstoppable, with 2024 seeing them headline London’s OVO Wembley Arena, a sold-out 25-date European tour, and a Latin American tour, further cementing their reputation as one of the most dynamic live acts in the world.
