George Lewis heads to Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival
Monday, November 16, 2015
Among the many highlights at this year’s Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival are two UK premieres by George Lewis, the influential US composer, improviser and trombonist.
His chamber opera ‘Afterword’ will be performed on Sunday 22 November at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, while ‘Construction Set TM’, a brand new work scored for the Berlin Splitter Orchester and featuring the composer himself at trombone soloist, will showcase at St Paul’s Hall on Friday 27 November.
Both have been scored to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Association For The Advancement Of Creative Musicians (AACM). Lewis will also present a guest lecture, ‘Composition As Ethnography’, on 21 November at 10.30am, a free talk at Phipps Hall which will examine the borders separating creative from academic research using the case of his own work as an illustration.
