Camden’s Jazz Café is set to reopen its doors from 17 May onwards with a packed weekly programme of shows across jazz, funk, folk and soul acts. Having successfully staged a vibrant programme last summer when restrictions eased; and then shoehorned in a few more shows in December before the pre-Christmas lockdown, the venue transformed its downstairs standing-roomonly floor space into a seated area with carefully spaced tables, as well as providing table service to avoid queues at the bar.

The upcoming programme once more showcases the brightest and best of the new generation of UK jazz names that include several talented newcomers such as a double-bill of prodigious guitarist/singer Rosie Frater-Taylor (pictured centre) and funky fusion trumpeter Jackson Mathod (above left); lofi-jazz-influenced multi-instrumentalist Conor Albert and funky keys-driven four-piece Yakul. Further highlights soul-jazz vocal don Omar with his QCBA (Quentin Collins & Brandon Allen) band; acclaimed saxophonist Camilla George; award-winning vocalist Zara McFarlane; an Ubuntu Music Latin-jazz special featuring TRYPL plus the reliably funky Afrobeat grooves from Soothsayers. Some international names are also booked for late-summer/early autumn including Roy Ayers, Ambrose Akinmusire, Billy Cobham and Alfredo Rodriguez Trio.

Dates are: Rosie Frater Taylor + Jackson Mathod (24 May); Omar & QCBA (29 May – two shows); Mama’s Gun (31 May); Massive Attack: Blue Lines performed by Plumm (1 June); Camilla George (2 June); Yakul (3 June); Zara McFarlane (5 June – two shows); TYRPL (6 June); Conor Albert (16 June); Soothsayers (17 June); Snowboy & The Latin Section (10 July); Corduroy (6 Aug); The Bays drumming special with Andy Gangadeen, Oli Wiseman, Kaz Rodriguez and Aicha Djidjelli (8 Aug) Nick Walters presents Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew 50th Anniversary (9 Aug); Omar (13-14 Aug); Nearly Dan (22 Aug); Roy Ayers (27-28 Aug); Ambrose Akinmusire (13 Sept); Billy Cobham (30 Sept and 1 Oct) and Alfredo Rodriguez Trio (18 Nov).
