Friday, February 28, 2003

Gilad Atzmon’s Bird With Strings project heads up a new International jazz season that’s just been announced by St George’s concert hall in Bristol, a beautifully converted former church that’s been praised for its excellent live music acoustics. Jazz has been previously presented at St George’s, alongside classical, folk and world music, but this is the first time that a full jazz season has been launched with six concerts between September and December programmed by jazz writer Phil Johnson. Dates are: Bird With Strings: Gilad Atzmon Orient House Ensemble with the Sigamos String Quartet (26 Sept); Richard Bona Sextet plus Muntu Valdo (12 November); Vinicius Cantuaria (20 Nov); Christian Wallumrod Ensemble (27 Nov); Lea DeLaria and Trio (4 Dec); David Rees-Williams Trio (16 Dec). Pictured: Gilad Atzmon
