A new series of big headline gigs have been announced for the summer months at one of London’s biggest jazz venues

The organisers of the EFG London Jazz Festival today (2 March) announces a new Summer Series – four very special concerts in June 2022 at Barbican – to kick off its 30h birthday year.
The main EFG London Jazz Festival will take place this autumn from 11 to 20 November, with the usual line-up of international artists, collaborations, themed strands and special creations, with the line-up unveiled starting from mid-April.
Before that, the festival team kicks off the journey of anniversary celebrations with a long weekend of global jazz stars taking over the Barbican stage from 22 to 25 June 2022. This summer series features concerts by icons Herbie Hancock, Brad Mehldau, Marisa Monte and SF Jazz featuring Gretchen Parlato and Chris Potter.
One of the foremost still-living, still-active figures in jazz, Herbie Hancock will be playing the Barbican on Wednesday 22 June. Multi-award-winning singer Marisa Monte is credited with bringing samba right up to the present day by melding jazz, blues and funk rhythms into old-school samba rhythms. One of Brazil's most exciting stars in her own right and as a member of Tribalistas, she’ll be performing at the Barbican on 26 June.
On Friday 24 June, pianist Brad Mehldau will perform in a trio with Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums. The mini-season ends on Saturday 25 June with a show by the SFJAZZ Ensemble, featuring vocalist Gretchen Parlato and saxophonist Chris Potter, as well as Kendrick AD Scott on drums
