The jazz station will host an all-day line-up of programmes celebrating British jazz on the Easter bank holiday Monday

Jazz FM are dedicating the day’s programming on Easter Monday, 13 April, to UK Music Day, in support of the British jazz community where all activity is at a standstill under lockdown. This will be a celebration of the work of British musicians, and those who have made the UK their home.

Starting at 6am and running through to 7pm, presenters Nigel Williams, Anne Frankenstein and Jamie Crick will play British jazz, soul and blues along with interviews and live session performances. From 7pm Helen Mayhew will host the Virtual Jazz Festival with exclusive performances from all over the UK with musicians performing from their homes and studios.

Nick Pitts, Jazz FM’s Content Director, says: “One thing that became very clear to us at the start of the Coronavirus crisis was how deeply this was affecting our UK jazz community. The idea for UK Music day started with an email from Helen Mayhew saying, ‘what can we do to help?’ and the rest just flowed from that. I’m really hoping that Jazz FM through its excellent presenters, producers and programmes can make a difference and show our musical family across the country that we are there for them.”
