John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension band release new live album

Iconic guitarist John McLaughlin is set to release a blistering new live album, The Boston Record (sleeve pictured left), on 31 March featuring his powerful 4th Dimension band captured on a particularly special night on their US tour last summer.

Recorded on 22 June at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, the album features McLaughlin’s long-standing bandmates Gary Husband on keyboards, Etienne Mbappe on electric bass and Ranjit Barot on drums. The music touches on his recent albums Industrial Zen and Floating Point as well as older albums such as Que Alegria on the frantic ‘Hijacked’ – while things conclude with a searing take on his Mahavishnu Orchestra classic ‘You Know, You Know’ from the influential 1971 album Inner Mounting Flame.
McLaughlin has said of the quality of this latest live album: “From time to time, a live record is made that has everything: great collective playing, a terrific audience, fantastic recorded sound, and a wonderful atmosphere. In the new recording of our concert you’ll find all of the above. I’m really happy about this recording.”
