Singer Kandace Springs has announced her newest project, The Women Who Raised Me, which will be released on 27 March on Blue Note Records. Produced by Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock), it's a tribute album to the female vocalists who have most impacted Springs’ own music

The album features renditions of songs made famous by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Roberta Flack, Astrud Gilberto, Lauryn Hill, Billie Holiday, Diana Krall, Carmen McRae, Bonnie Raitt, Sade, Nina Simone and Dusty Springfield; plus a collaboration with Springs’ “ultimate inspiration,” Norah Jones.

Springs says: "This album expresses my love for all of these singers and gratitude for what they gave me. Each taught me something different and all of those lessons combined to make me who I am now.”

Accompanying Springs (playing piano as well as singing) are guitarist Steve Cardenas (Norah Jones), bassist Scott Colley (Carmen McRae), and drummer Clarence Penn (Diana Krall), plus contributions from bassist Christian McBride, saxophonist David Sanborn and Norah Jones.

Kandace Springs will perform a headline show at the Alexandra Palace Theatre on 3 April. More information and tickets available here: www.kandacesprings.com/#tour

Ahead of the album, she has also released a single – a cover of Sade’s “Pearls”. Check out the video below:
