Key David Murray DIW Albums Set For Digital Release

Friday, April 4, 2008

The online digital download shop eMusic is to release downloads of a large chunk of David Murray’s massive back catalogue, making available digitally many albums that are out of print or hard to find. The saxophonist, who has recorded for many different labels and has pursued a doggedly independent stance as far as the music industry is concerned, is best known for his spate of recordings on labels such as the Japanese DIW imprint as well as the late Coltrane producer Bob Thiele’s 1990s label Red Baron. Emusic downloads pride themselves on good sound quality with a bit rate higher than both Napster and iTunes.

Rob Wetstone, vice president of label relations, responsible for securing the addition of the David Murray recordings says: “eMusic is dedicated to providing exciting and undiscovered music catalogues to our musically informed customers and we’re proud to exclusively offer these rare recordings from such a seminal jazz musician as David Murray to a digital audience for the first time. Introducing him to music lovers and reacquainting him with long-time fans, these rare and sought after recordings demonstrate Murray’s incredible range, as well as why he is held in such high regard.”
Twenty-six albums that Murray made for DIW are set for release for the first time digitally and exclusively on eMusic for three months. They include the critically acclaimed Shakill’s Warrior, the 1986 duo album with Jack DeJohnette In Our Style and 90s album Long Goodbye: A Tribute to Don Pullen.
