Michael Brecker wins two posthumous Grammys

Michael Brecker, the great saxophonist who died in January, won two Grammys posthumously at the Grammy awards in Los Angeles last night. He won for best jazz instrumental solo on 'Some Skunk Funk' from the BHM album of the same name recorded with his brother Randy and the WDR Big Band. The album was also voted best large jazz ensemble album.

Other jazz winners were Bela Fleck and the Flecktones for best contemporary jazz album for The Hidden Land; Nancy Wilson for best jazz vocal album for Turned To Blue; Chick Corea for best jazz instrumental album for The Ultimate Adventure and The Brian Lynch/Eddie Palmieri Project, best latin jazz album for Simpatico.
