Montreux Pays Tribute To Arif Mardin

The Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland has announced details of a special tribute concert to legendary producer and arranger Arif Mardin who died on Sunday.

At the Casino Barrière on 1 July, George Duke, Klaus Doldinger and Chaka Khan will pay tribute to Arif Mardin who produced some of their earlier albums. In 1977 Mardin produced a week of concerts at Montreux with Atlantic label artists such as Average White Band, Herbie Mann, and Etta James. He also at that time conducted the WDR big band in a world premiere of a suite for orchestra plus flamenco and jazz musicians.
