The guitar guru announces his new trio as the latest chapter in his extraordinary career continues

The relentless creativity of revered guitarist Pat Metheny, continues its new chapter following his move to BMG/Modern Records, with a newly announced London date of 12 June 2022 at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith for his new Side-Eye trio project.

Receiving great acclaim for his recent classical guitar album Road to the Sun, Metheny is set to dive back into his beloved trio format with two of the hottest young players from the US, in the form of 24-year-old Blue Note-signed pianist and keyboardist James Francies, who’s best known for his collaborations with Chris Potter, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Stefon Harris and more, and drummer Joe Dyson, who has appeared on albums by Dr. Lonnie Smith, Sullivan Fortner, and Christian Scott.

They will be performing music from across Pat Metheny's massive career as well as new material unique to this live band. Commenting on his new young band Metheny said: “I was the beneficiary of so many older musicians giving me a platform to develop my thing through the prism of their experience and music. I hear regularly from new players who have professed an influence from my records and I often invite them up to my house to play. Very often, it is really natural and organic to the music to play with them, they have literally grown up with it. I find myself inspired by how they deal with the musical challenges that come with the territory of some of those older tunes, and at the same time I find myself intrigued with the possibilities of what might be possible in writing new music just for them.”
