Leading UK pianist Robert Mitchell will celebrate his milestone 50th birthday (which was on 28 May) with a special two-part gig at Ronnie Scott’s on 7 August
Robert Mitchell has worked with a who’s who of British jazz talent and is widely regarded as one the most technically and creatively assured players of his generation. The first half of the evening will feature his Epiphany 3 band, with special guest cellist Shirley Smart alongside his longtime rhythm section of bassist Tom Mason and drummer Saleem Raman, all playing music from Mitchell’s 2017 album A Vigil For Justice, A Vigil For Peace and their 2018 EP Epiphany.
The group will also play their Jazz South Radar Commission, ‘Good Trouble, Necessary Trouble – A John Lewis tribute’. This will be followed by a second-half featuring his new multi-generational, multi-cultural True Think ensemble that includes award-winning vocalist/ violinist Alice Zawadzki, multi-instrumentalist Zayn Mohammed with a special guest appearance by gifted Cuban trumpeter Yelfris Valdés – all playing music from the group’s forthcoming album.
