PX Records is the newly launched label from PizzaExpress Live and will feature performances recorded at the jazz club in Soho, The Pheasantry in Chelsea and PizzaExpress Live Holborn
The first two LPs are live sets by renowned US saxophonist Scott Hamilton and hard-grooving UK jazz funk band Mama’s Gun. Both albums will be released in April, with more to come from the vast archive of recordings that have been amassed over the last 45 years, with the majority of concerts recorded at the venues since the 1970s.
The first release features the hugely popular Hamilton, with At PizzaExpress Live in London celebrating 40 years since his first appearance at the Soho club, as well as the 20th anniversary of the first performance at the venue with his UK Quartet, which comprises of pianist John Pearce, bassist Dave Green and drummer Steve Brown.
The set from British five-piece Mamas Gun’s demonstrates their dynamic blend of soul, R&B and funk which has won them praise for their high-energy performances. Their set was captured at Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho in 2022. These initial releases will be followed by live recordings from fusion-soul band Native Dancer (featuring Sam Crowe and Josh Arcoleo) and soul singer songwriter, Ed Black, aka EDBL.
In addition, the label will release a series of legacy recordings sourced from PizzaExpress Live’s extensive archive featuring previously unreleased performances from some of the legendary acts to have graced its stage.
