Tom Cawley Debut Album And Tour

Much touted pianist Tom Cawley steps out of the shadows of Acoustic Ladyland to launch his debut album and tour the UK. The pianist’s new trio, Tom Cawley’s Curios, recorded the album Hidden in breaks from recording sessions for Acoustic Ladyland’s latest album Skinny Grin, which was released in early December. Featuring bassist Sam Burgess and drummer Joshua Blackmore Hidden showcases Cawley’s imaginative composition and improvisation on an inspired set that draws on influences as diverse as Thelonious Monk, Lennie Tristano, Debussy, Rufus Wainwright and Phineas Newborn Jr. Over the past few years Cawley has also played with Charlie Watts Tentet, Gwyneth Herbert and Dave O’Higgins before forming Curios in 2006.

The album is released on the Jazzizit label on 26 February and tour dates are: Pizza Express Jazz Club, London (5 Feb); JAGZ at the Station, Ascot (4 March); Wakefield Rugby Club (9 March); The Shed, Brawby (10 March); Vortex, London (14 March); Watermill Jazz Club, Dorking (15 March); Sussex Arts Club, Brighton (16 March); King of Hearts, Norwich (17 March); Wiltshire Arts Centre, Bradford-Upon-Avon 18 March); Darwin Suite, Derby (21 March); Biggin Hall Coventry (22 March); Sheffield Jazz Club (23 March); Swansea Jazzland (28 March); Café Jazz, Cardiff (29 March); The Fleece, Boxford (20 April) and Colchester Arts Centre (22 April).
